从前，有一只小乌龟正在吞食一只小鱼，却被飞来的白鹭抢去。乌龟不堪示弱，咬掉了白鹭几根羽毛。白鹭恼怒地啄食乌龟，无奈乌龟将头尾手脚全部缩进硬壳之中，啄食不到。白鹭百般翻转叼啄，就是伤不到乌龟。乌龟以静制动，以逸待劳，抓住时机咬住了白鹭的脖子，巧妙地取得了这场持久战的胜利。
